Just two articles this roundup
- must-read explanation of chatGPT (and LLMs)
- “playful” experience with New Bing. The past days comparing the “personalities” of New Bing and chatGPT has been a hot topic. At this stage we can’t do much more than play with each and it’s worth noting that Bing is being likely heavily modified as we speak (UPDATE: the same day this post was published, 17/Feb/23′, Microsoft applied some changes that limit the kind of experience that can be obtained by interacting with Bing). With chatGPT it is more transparent, as you can always see when the current version was released, with a link to their (likely heavily edited and reduced) release notes, and I don’t think it’s the case with Bing
News
Microsoft included new pricing for their Bing API, apparently increasing prices for standard search, and giving a hint of how much more expensive the chat/LLM experience is to run. I haven’t followed up in detail, and some people believe it’s not directly related with the launch of New Bing, but I think that the cost issue will be an important element in the next years of evolution of LLMs (always taken in conjunction with the use case and business case)
Articles
- What is ChatGPT doing … and why does it work? Stephen Wolfram. A great resource that balances simplicity and depth. It’s rather long (85 minutes read according to Pocket), but well worth it
- From Bing to Sydney – Ben Thompson showing a very interesting experience with New Bing (aka., Sydney).
